Meat Patty & Meatball Mix

What you need

  • 500g lean mince

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • ½ cup wholemeal breadcrumbs

  • 1 egg

  • ½ cup rolled oats

  • 1 medium carrot, grated

  • 2 tablespoons chutney OR sauce

  • 2 teaspoons dried herbs e.g. oregano, Italian

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • Pepper to taste


Method

  • Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and use in one of the following ways.

    Koftas

  • You can use lamb or beef mince. If using lamb mince replace herbs with cumin.

  • Soak bamboo sticks in cold water.

  • Shape small handfuls of the mix into a log around each stick. The log should be around 2cmin diameter.

  • Brush with oil and grill or barbeque until cooked.

  • Serve on rice or in pita bread with salad.

    Meatloaf

  • Press into a lightly oiled 22cm loaf tin.

  • Mix 4 tablespoons tomato sauce with 2 tablespoons rolled oats and ¼ cup chopped parsley. Spread over the top of the meat loaf.

  • Cook at 180 C for 30 – 40 minutes or until juices run clear when tested with a skewer.

    Italian Meat Balls

  • Shape mix into small balls and brown in a little oil in a pan.

  • Transfer balls to a baking dish in a single layer.

  • Cover with a bottle of Passata OR jar of pasta sauce. Bake at 180 C for around 30 minutes or until sauce is thick and bubbling.
